Please - Spay/Neuter!

Each day 10,000 humans are born in the US - and each day 70,000 puppies and kittens are born. As long as these birth rates exist, there will never be enough homes for all the animals. As a result, every year 4 to 6 million animals are euthanized because there are no homes for them.

This is a quick and super easy recipe for Liver brownies or cake. My dogs LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

LIVER BROWNIES (OR CAKE):

1 pound of raw chicken or beef livers

2 boxes of Jiffy Yellow Corn Muffin Mix

Simply blend the livers in a blender till liquefied. Pour in a mixing bowl and add 2 boxes of Jiffy corn muffin mix. Mix well and pour into cake or brownie pan(s) and cook for 15 - 20 minutes at 400 degrees.

You can also do what I did (by accident) - I mixed 1 pound of livers with 2 boxes of Jiffy mix, but I added the Jiffy mix ingredients of 2 eggs and 2/3 cup of milk. It was too soupy so I added 2 more boxes of Jiffy mix and it came out fine. Baked it the same way as on the box. In fact, that’s what I did for this 4th of July cake below. (I did not have a bone shaped cake pan, so I cut it after I baked it and then iced it with cream cheese frosting and sprinkles. I also added some Kelp powder to the recipe and then sprinkled it on top, as well. Be sure to refrigerate any uneaten portions!)

To celebrate the birthday of 6 wonderful dogs, I made some delicious dog-safe birthday cakes! Want to make some doggie birthday cakes, too? Just follow my yummy recipes below:

Peanut Butter Delight

1 cup white or whole wheat flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 cup shredded carrots
1 tsp vanilla
1/3 cup honey
1 egg

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C)

Mix together flour and baking soda. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Pour into a ring mold sprayed with a nonstick spray for 40 minutes.

Frost this cake with low fat cottage cheese and decorate with carrot pieces. Store in refrigerator.

Here’s my lovely attempt at this cake (I actually made 4 mini cakes out of this recipe, and topped them with a frosting of cream cheese and cinnamon, then topped them with diced raw carrots, dried cranberries, shredded coconut and then drizzled it with Reese’s Peanut Butter topper! My dogs LOVED these!!!

Banana Carob Chip Dog Birthday Cake

2 cups water
2 ripe bananas
1/8 tsp vanilla
3 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 Tbs baking powder
1 egg
2 Tbs honey
1/2 cup carob chips

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C)

In a mixing bowl combine water, bananas, vanilla, egg and honey. Add whole wheat flour and baking powder. Mix well. Pour mixture into an 8-inch cake pan sprayed with a nonstick spray. Sprinkle carob chips on top. Bake for 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

Decorating suggestion: Make both the Cinnamon and Carob frostings (below), then ice the cake with one, and use the other as a decorative trim.

Here’s my version of this recipe - I added Reese’s peanut butter chips to my cake, as well. I made two layers and put the same cream cheese mixture I used for my icing in between the layers. I iced it with a mixture of cream cheese, carob powder, honey, vanilla and shredded coconut. I used regular icing gel for their names and to decorate it, and then added some candy cake letters and stuff. It looks kinda weird here because the cream cheese starts to dry out if not immediately covered, and the candy letters had started to run onto the icing before I had time to take the photo! I swear it looked better right after I made it - but they LOVED it so much anyway! lol!
